Aston Villa have signed Tom Carroll on loan from Swansea.

The 26-year-old, who has only just returned from a three-month injury, was targeted late on deadline day.

Villa have an option to sign him permanently at the end of the season.

Earlier in the day

Aston Villa have signed Frederic Guilbert from Caen for an undisclosed fee, believed to be around £5million.

The defender will return to the Ligue 1 side on loan for the remainder of the 2018/19 season.

The 24-year-old right-back has  been capped internationally by France at U21 level.

Mings deal

Tyrone Mings has joined Aston Villa on loan until the end of the season.

The 25-year-old arrives from Bournemouth and is set to make his debut against Reading on Saturday.

The 6ft 4in defender has spent the majority of his career playing at left-back but Dean Smith plans to use him as a left-sided central defender to add balance to his back four.

He is Villa’s third signing of the transfer window and arrives for a reported £1m loan fee.

The Claret and Blue faithful have had their say – which has included some top punning.

What’s happening at Aston Villa?

Dean Smith was just as happy: “I’m very pleased. He’s an important cog in the machine.

“We wanted to redress the balance defensively and bringing Tyrone in gives us two left-footed centre-backs, both who can play left-back if needed.

“He’s a centre-half, he can play left-back. We brought him in as a centre-back who can play there.

“He’s a player that I’ve known for quite a long time. I’ve got some really good character references on him.

“He’s quick, he’s a Premier League player who is coming to play for Aston Villa. He’s got great potential and he’s been very unlucky with injuries in the last couple of years.”
