Hammers co- owner David Sullivan, who has rejected a £35million bid from Chinese Super League club Shanghai SIPG, has decided he does not want to sell in this window.
Twitter user @ExWHUemployee – a reliable source of West Ham News – explained how that message was delivered to the Austrian this week.
But it went down badly with Arnautovic, who has now been left out the squad to face Bournemouth on Saturday.
“It is confirmed that Arnautovic is not in the squad tomorrow,” tweeted Ex.
“This is all part of trying to engineer a move away from the club! Time to go now-hurry up Chinese club.
“He trained yesterday and was told we want to keep him….he didn’t react well and is now not in squad (payet 2).”
Boss Manuel Pellegrini opened the door to Arnautovic leaving West Ham yesterday – just as the club tried to close it.
The Hammers had said for days Pellegrini would have the final say on whether Arnautovic, 29, could join Shanghai SIPG this month.
But the manager signalled he would have no problem with the wantaway Austrian going, as long as any deal was done as quickly as possible.
Pellegrini said: “As soon as those issues are resolved it’s better for everybody. “I don’t have any problem with the club.
“They are not forcing me to sell Marko but as a manager the best thing is to take the solution best for both player and club.
“If it’s a good deal for both parties we will carry on without Marko. But the club doesn’t want to sell him.”
