A Reddit user posted the idea yesterday, jettisoning the heavily-rumoured notions of time Travel and the use of the quantum realm in favour of something much simpler. The post has had hundreds of responses and has been 88% Upvoted at time of writing. So could this be a feasible way for Thanos to be defeated?
It’s no secret that many MCU stars will be returning for more movies – even the ones who appeared to die at the end of last year’s Avengers: Infinity War.
So how exactly can that happen? And how can Thanos be punished for his devastating actions in Infinity War?
Reddit user zyax21 wrote: “Unless I’m wrong, the gauntlet is burned out after the snap but the stones are functional (Thanos uses the space stone to port away from Thor after the snap). So, the stones still work but probably can’t be combined anymore.
“That also means that all of stones are with Thanos on the planet he ported to, though he may not be directly wielding them anymore as he drops the gauntlet while assuming that there will be no resistance heading his way.
“Here’s my basic skeleton outline for what goes down. The remaining Avengers basically disband and go their separate ways to mourn, recover, and prevent anarchy in the wake of the snap.
“Captain Marvel saves Tony from dying in space while responding to Fury’s distress signal. Meanwhile, Scott Lang emerges from the quantum realm and seeks out the remaining Avengers for help.
“Scott’s reappearance along with the arrival of Marvel and Tony ignites a spark of hope in Cap/Widow/Banner who then reunite the troops (including a pissed off Hawkeye and, most importantly, Thor and Rocket).”
They added: “Rocket/Thor explain how Eitri still has a forge and mold for the infinity gauntlet & the plan comes together.
“Part of the team go to help reconstruct the gauntlet while part go to locate Thanos and reclaim the stones. Between Captain Marvel & Thor the Avengers should have enough punch to make it a real fight even if Thanos is using the stones (handicapped to one at a time, unlike in Infinity War).
“Eventually the teams reunite and either Cap or Tony wear the gauntlet (Tony is the genesis of the MCU but I’d still put my $$$ on Cap wearing it).
“Whoever uses it revives everybody dusted by Thanos but are also overwhelmed by the power of the stones and vanish as the newly spent gauntlet drops to the ground.
“Thanos, seeing his plan ruined, loses control for the first time onscreen & flies into an absolute rage. Bruce, seeing his friend sacrifice himself, finally unleashes the Hulk.
“Hulk and the Avengers, in a scene of pure catharsis, beat Thanos into dust. I bet Nebula lands the killing blow.”
Whatever happens, we don’t have too long left to wait now: the film is out in less than four months.
It has a high bar to reach: Infinity War was a record-shattering smash hit, although the fact the Avengers: Endgame trailer smashed the online 24-hour trailer views record suggests it won’t have any trouble soaring to more box office success.
Avengers: Endgame is out on April 26.
