Aston Villa are second favourites to sign Brentford striker Neal Maupay, according to the latest odds.

Bookmakers SkyBet reckon there’s an 11/2 chance of the Frenchman enjoying a reunion with ex-Bees boss Dean Smith.

That’s just behind Huddersfield, who are 7/2, but ahead of Premier League sides Brighton and Crustal Palace.

However, by far the more likely option according to the bookies is for the 22-year-old to still be at Griffin Park when the transfer window closes.

Huddersfield 7/2

Aston Villa 11/2

Crystal Palace 10/1

Brighton 16/1

Stay at Brentford 2/5

Maupay was recently asked about the prospect of teaming up with Smith again – and he spoke glowingly about the current Villa boss

“I have a really, really good relationship with Dean. So obviously if one day he calls me and says ‘Neal, I need you in my team’ I would consider it.

“But at this moment I can’t be focused on other things than Brentford.

What’s happening at Aston Villa?

“Obviously, I really liked working for him, so if one day he wants to bring me to Villa or wherever I would listen to him because he has done a lot of good things for me.

“I have a contract and I obviously want to finish the season. But you know, football is crazy.”

Villa are facing the prospect of losing Tammy Abraham wit Wolves in talks with Chelsea about taking the loanee to Molineux.

A permanent deal for Abraham is an option, but initially he could be recalled by the Stamford Bridge club before being loaned back out to Wolves.

National reports suggest an £18million bid from Wolves has been accepted by Chelsea and that discussions will now be held, although that’s unconfirmed by either club at this stage.
