Tamworth RFC First XV head coach Tom Franks expects a real ‘humdinger’ as his side look to go into Christmas on top of Midland Two West North.
The Wigginton Park men are second in the table ahead of this Saturday’s trip to league leaders Ludlow.
Just two points separate the sides and Franks said: “There’s a lot of excitement in the group.
“It’s going to be a real humdinger, first v second with whoever wins being top of the league heading into Christmas.
“On the other end of it, Wolverhampton are breathing down both of our necks so the losing side could drop down to third. It’s a massive game and we expect Ludlow to be strong, especially as they are at home.
“It will be a tough, tough place to go. But, although we expect a difficult test, there is no fear in our group. As I say, we are excited and looking forward to it.
“I am confident that if we have our best players out on the pitch and keep mistakes down to a minimum, we have got enough about us to get a win.”
Tamworth head into the clash on the back of a 28-12 win over Leek.
That result came after they suffered their first defeat of the campaign the week before, thumped 47-7 at Crewe and Nantwich.
“The talk of last week was that we needed to get back on the horse after that poor performance and result at Crewe,” said Franks. “We always knew there was going to be a bump in the road at some point, although we didn’t expect such a big defeat.
“But we worked hard in training and responded well against Leek.
“It was a good win against a tough side.
“It gives us confidence going into the Ludlow game.
“It’s not going to be a season-defining week because this league is the strongest it has been and teams will take points off each other in the second half of the season. But it is certainly a big week.”
