Roger Federer enjoyed a stellar 2018 in tennis, winning the Australian Open.

The 37-year-old proved that age is no barrier as he continued to fight at the top of the ATP rankings.

Federer is an icon in Switzerland and plays the Swiss Indoors every year.

He has won their version of Sports Personalty a record seven times.

But 2018 may not be the tennis legend’s year.

The ceremony gets underway this Sunday and Roger Federer has stiff competition for the men’s Sport Personality.

Dario Cologna

Cross-Country skiing champion Dario Cologna won 15km gold at the Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Beat Feuz

Another Olympian, alpine skiing sensation Feuz won silver in the Super-G.

Andy Schmid

Handball star Rhein-Neckar-Löwen was named the MVP for the 2018 Bundesliga season and won the cup with his side this year.

Nino Schurter

Mountain biker Schurter became a World Cup winner in 2018 and also won the World Cross-Country Championship.

Ramon Zenhäusern

Another alpine skiing sensation, Zenhäusern claimed Olympic silver in the slalom.

Federer won the Swiss Sports Personality award last year after a stellar campaign in which he became Australian Open and Wimbledon champion.

The veteran is currently enjoying the tennis off-season before he begins preparation for 2019.

Federer is expected to play for Switzerland in the Hopman Cup during the New Year.

He will also likely schedule in a warm-up tournament ahead of the Australian Open, where he will be one of the favourites for the men’s singles title.
