The sixth book in the A Song Of Ice And Fire series – which of course spawned the Game of Thrones TV show – is currently being written by George RR Martin, and will come out at least seven years after its predecessor, A Dance With Dragons. And while the TV show has now long overtaken the events of the book, there is one storyline that is particularly difficult to predict.
In a post that has been 86% upvoted on Reddit, user rolldownthewindow started a discussion on Brienne and Jaime.
Was their ending in ADWD the biggest cliffhanger of all?
The user wrote: “To me the biggest cliffhanger in ADWD was Brienne finding Jaime to bring him back to Lady Stoneheart.
“Jon’s death hasn’t really left me on tenterhooks because we all know he’s coming back.
“Same goes for most of the cliffhangers in ADWD. We can basically surmise from the show roughly how things will turn out.
“But the Brienne and Jaime situation is so different from what happened in the show and I can’t really even begin to guess what will happen when she brings him back to Lady Stoneheart.
“Or will she? Will they try to do a runner and end up being hunted by the Outlaws?”
Fellow ASOIAF fans have begun adding their own theories as to what could transpire.
“I’d like to see Jaime given a trial like the Hound got,” suggested one. “I know a member of the Brotherhood wishes they could put the Kingslayer on trial in Storm, I like to think it was foreshadowing.”
“My personal theory: Thoros will persuade LSH to allow Jaime a trial by combat and he’ll choose Brienne as his champion while LSH will choose Lem as the Brotherhood’s champion,” said another.
Whatever the answers, we have a long way to wait yet: The Winds of Winter does not currently have a release date.
But Fire and Blood, an ASOIAF companion book, is out now.
