A premium laptop with bigger specs than Elton John.

Huawei are more known for their smartphones, but the Chinese company has a new range of tablets and computers. Their top of the line MateBook X Pro takes aim at both the MacBook Pro and Surface Pro laptops with similar characteristics but at a lower price point.

Good Points?

All the boxes that make an exceptional laptop are ticked on the MateBook X Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB RAM, NVIDIA GeForce MX150 dedicated GPU with 2GB of memory and a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD.

The finesse is provided by a 3K LTPS touchscreen display which has a 91 per cent screen-to-body ratio. This “full view” labelled design offers a near borderless screen and with its 3000 x 2000 resolution gives detailed and vibrant visuals.

A substantial 57.4Wh battery capacity will easily handle a full day of business or social endeavours before it needs to be charged.

Bad points?

The recessed camera on the keyboard is a great idea but falls a little short in practice due to its shallow unmovable angle that requires you to be sat a bit further back than you’d like.

Best for …

Those who want a genuine computing beast with a slick design for far less than you’d pay for a competitor from Apple or Microsoft.

Avoid if …

You are easily swayed by conspiracy theories, particularly the one that US security agencies hold that Huawei is in cahoots with the Chinese government/military and using its telecommunications equipment to spy on us.

Score: 9/10.
