Roger Federer gets Australian Open BOOST as super fan Anna Wintour confirms plans | Tennis | Sport 1052622 1

The Swiss star will be no stranger to celebrities fawning over him, and it appears the Vogue editor will be the latest in line to watch Federer.

Federer will be looking to win his seventh Australian Open when the tournament comes round in January.

And having super-fan Wintour there will surely gives him the boost he needs.

The 69-year-old has been a fan for a long time, she claims.

“I flew around the world for his tournaments, suffered when he fell behind and got ecstatic when he won,” she said.

“I’ve even occasionally missed fashion shows just to see Roger play Roger, who is certainly the greatest tennis player of all time.”

The famous journalist has never been to watch the Austrailian open live before and will be thrilled to finally witness it in person.

“As a lifelong tennis fan who spent years in New York watching this tournament on television at all times of the day and night,” Wintour added.

“I’m delighted to be Traveling to Melbourne to see my very first Australian Open first-hand.”

Federer will face some stern competition though, and can expect to face Novak Djokovic if gets to the latter stages.

Djokovic is a six-time winner of the tournament – which is often regarded as the Serb’s favourite.

Fitness problems have ruled Briton Andy Murray out – while it may be touch and go for Rafael Nadal to make it back fit in time for the start.

Federer’s ATP season ended disappointingly, losing in the semi-finals of the ATP finals.

It was the 37-year-olds chance to win his 100th title – but it appears he’ll now have to wait for the chance to secure the historic win.

The tournament, which takes place in Melbourne, is expected to get underway on January 15 and is expected to last until January 28.
