Jamie Hawkesworth’s New Show Embraces Chance

RECENTLY PHOTOGRAPHING in Mombasa, a coastal city in southeast Kenya, Jamie Hawkesworth encountered a group of girls in matching uniforms crossing a road to a school. Hawkesworth, struck by the scene, met with the school faculty about taking portraits of the children. The resulting images and a five-minute film are focal points in his latest exhibition, A Blue Painted Fence, open now through December 9 in his home base of London.
