The hunt to find the top business leaders from across the North East is well under way, as the 35th North East Business Executive Awards draws nearer.

Drive, integrity, dynamism and leadership are all qualities that will be honoured at the event, which has attracted stand-out firms from across the region to apply.

Among the awards up for grabs is the prize for Young Business Person of the Year, which is this year sponsored by Newcastle University Business School.

Those businesses which evolve and thrive are supported by good leaders who inspire and cultivate both people and organisations. This is why the Business School is working to ensure that the next generation of global leaders are equipped with the skills, knowledge, integrity and ambition for the future of work and can contribute to a prosperous society.

Professor Sharon Mavin, director of Newcastle Business School

Prof Sharon Mavin, director of Newcastle University Business School said: “Our continued sponsorship of the North East Business Executive of the Year Awards reflects the Business School’s commitment to supporting regional business leadership and entrepreneurship.

“Developing leaders and new business thinking is fundamental to what we do. In the face of complex challenges facing organisations and communities we are developing leaders and managers for the future of work, who can work with emerging digital technologies; exponential change and disruption; an ageing and diverse workforce and increasing inequalities.

“At the gateway to the Newcastle Helix, the Business School’s newly formed leader development and organisation futures team are perfectly placed to help organisations better understand and respond to these challenges. The team works with the business community to develop leadership capacity to foster environments that encourage innovation, entrepreneurialism, growth and sustainability.”

Last year Phil Pallister, managing director of 0800 Repair Gas Services, was named Young Business Person of the Year.

Mr Pallister has overseen the growth and development of the repair company, which is a vital arm of the Pacifica Group. The firm started with a small number of staff and resources to a nationwide service.

He has also made clever structural changes and secured key contracts and partnerships with suppliers.

Established in 2010, 0800 Repair Gas Services is now a leading home service in heating, plumbing and installation and is enjoying a major engagement with Npower. The eight-figure deal allowed the firm to create 30 more jobs, with more expected to follow.

The awards will be presented at a prestigious awards dinner taking place at the Civic Centre, Newcastle on November 8. The evening will include a drinks reception, three-course meal, the award presentations, and an entertaining speech by our special guest, Reverend Richard Coles.
