This Saturday night, Sunderland fighter Josh Kelly will take on Walter Fabian Castillo at the Manchester Arena in a 10-round bout.
The fight will be Kelly’s eighth of his career and he will be looking to improve on his already impressive record of 7-0, with his last win coming against Aussie Kris George in Newcastle back in June.
Kelly knows the odds are in his favour in this fight with Castillo winning just one of his last three fights.
“I’ve got my head in the game and we’ve been training long and hard for this but we’re just going to push through this fight and do the business,” said Kelly.
“I never overlook any opponents, I’m always focused and I know what can happen when you do overlook opponents.”
The Sunderland boxer knows this wont be an easy fight despite his bout with Castillo being confirmed within the last few weeks.
“He [Castillo] was a last minute opponent, I’ve watched a lot of him, I always do over time with my opponents,” he said.
“He seems a strong, game Argentinian who has never been stopped so I feel as though it will be tough.”
Despite only fighting in seven bouts Kelly is yet to lose a fight and has taken on tough opposition in Carlos Molina (29-10-2) and Jean Michel Hamilcaro (26-9-3).
The young welterweight goes into this fight knowing a win will bring him ever closer to his first shot at a world title belt.
“I’m ready for a title fight so now I’m going to push through this fight then hopefully everything goes well, and then I perform in December,” Added Kelly.
In just four weeks time the Sunderland fighter will be back in action in Sheffield as part of Kell Brook’s undercard on December 8th.
