Camilla Duchess of Cornwall: Secret trip to Scotland with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle | Travel News | Travel 1040420 1

Camilla Duchess of Cornwall, 71, and Prince Charles, 69, have formed a strong friendship with Meghan Markle, 37, since she joined the Royal Family.

Following her wedding to Prince Harry, 34, she joined the older couple for a number of official events together.

The newlyweds, while their honeymoon location remains unknown, also joined them for a secret holiday.

In July, the four royals headed to Scotland to stay at Castle of Mey in Caithness, Scotland.

A source told “The visit happened the day after their visit to the polo. They stayed for five days and it was Prince Charles hosting them.

“During the days they took long hikes along the coast (which looks out over John o’ Groats).”

The trip followed a number of remarks from Meghan’s family such as her father and sister regarding their relationship.

“With all that has been going on with Meghan’s family, they wanted to get them out of the city and to the coast of Scotland,” a source told US Weekly.

It is thought that Meghan and Harry spent time on the grounds away from the public eye and came back to London feeling “restored”.

Castle of Mey entered the Royal Family when the Queen Mother bought the castle in 1952.

It was built between 1566 and 1572 and was owned by the Fourth Earl of Caithness, George Sinclair.

Previously called Barrogill castle, the property was restored and Prince Charles now visits at least once a year when it is closed to the public.

However it isn’t Prince Charles and Camilla’s favourite holiday location; the pair honeymooned at Birkhall, just eight miles from Balmoral.

They also spent their first wedding anniversary and tenth wedding anniversary there as well.

Other Royal Family members opted to stay in the UK for their honeymoon.

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip famously chose to stay in Hampshire at Broadlands House, before heading to Birkhall Lodge at Balmoral.

However, the younger royals opted for much more glamorous honeymoon locations.

Kate Middleton and Prince William headed to Seychelles to a private island following their wedding in 2010, while Zara and Mike Tindall headed to Cyprus.

The location of Meghan and Harry’s honeymoon has not been revealed with rumours of Namibia being the most popular.
