A TRIO of footie stars from the same club have signed for Morton.
Friends Cole Docherty, Matthew Cannie and Dean Black, all from St Andrews Boys’ Club, were asked along to a Ton trial and signed up this month.
The nine-year-olds are thrilled to be playing with Morton pro-youth team 2009.
Matthew’s mum Lynn Cannie, of Newark Street, said: “Matthew is a diehard Morton fan and he and Cole were mascots as a birthday treat.
“He is so excited and living the dream at the moment.
“The boys met through St Andrew’s, so there’s a social aspect as well.
“They’ve all been playing since they were three or four and have taken part in mini-kicks and Morton Community.
“It’s a great opportunity for them.”
The Gourock Primary pupil lives with his mum and dad Brian and his favourite player is Ton hitman Bob McHugh.
Dean’s love of football runs in the family with his dad Graham being a volunteer coach with St Andrews.
Graham said: “Dean is over the moon about it.
“He has been to a few games with me in the past and his favourite player was Jai Quitongo.
“I’m very happy for him.
“He has progressed well over the years he’s been with St Andrews along with the other boys.”
Dean’s brothers also have the football bug – his older brother Declan, 16, has been a St Andrews star since he was eight and younger brother Daley recently joined the 2013 group, leaving their poor mum Kirsty outnumbered.
Cole attends St Mary’s Primary and lives with his parents Alan and Laura, and little sister Reeva.
Laura, 36, said: “He was delighted to sign.
“He was a mascot last year and has become more interested since then.
“He’s really enjoying his time at Morton.
“My husband is a keen footballer, so he is thrilled.
“It nice the three boys are in it together.
“It gives them a bit more discipline and there will be professionals there.”
There could also be another footballer in the family soon as Laura is expecting a baby at the end of next month.
She said: “Cole says he wants a wee brother.”
