The Ukraine forward suffered the injury during the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday
Andriy Yarmolenko is set to miss six months of the season after undergoing surgery on his Achilles tendon.
The West Ham United winger was stretchered off the London Stadium pitch in agony after going down against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
With no players around him, fears about the severity of his injury were instantly heightened and have now been confirmed by the club.
A statement on the club’s website from Head of Medical Services Richard Collinge said: “Andriy’s operation went well and we will now work hard to support him throughout the rehabilitation process.
“His recovery will be planned very carefully and we have every confidence that he will return to full fitness within the scheduled timeframe.”
The winger arrived from Borussia Dortmund in the summer after a £17.75 million move.
