X-Files actor Peter Donat, who is best known for his role as Agent Fox Mulder’s father on the show, has died at the age of 90.
His wife, Maria Delong Donat, confirmed the sad News to the New York Times.
She revealed that Peter died at his home in California due to complications with diabetes.
The actor last appeared on TV in Murder, She Wrote in 2003.
Peter was born in Kentville, Nova Scotia was attracted to acting after seeing his uncle Robert in Goodbye, Mr Chips.
He emigrated to the United States in 1950 where he went on to study drama at Yale University.
Peter later started his career in 1957 when he made his debut on Broadway in The First Gentleman.
His early work included the TV movie The Clay of Kings and Robert Montgomery Presents.
Peter also starred on The FBI, Hawaii Five-O and Murder, She Wrote.
Peter first appeared as William Mulder in 1999 in the episode One Son.
Speaking of working with Peter, Fox Mulder star David Duchovny said they had fun on set.
“He had an easy gravitas as a performer and seemed to come from that generation that took the art seriously but not too seriously,” he told the New York Times.
Peter was married to actress Michael Learned from 1956 until 1972, when they divorced.
The pair have three children together: Caleb, Christopher and Lucas.
Peter went on to marry his second wife, Maria, in 1983 and they remained together until his death.
He is survived by sons Caleb, Christopher and Lucas, his stepdaughters Barbara Park Shapiro, Marina Park Sutton, stepson Malcolm Park and 11 grandchildren.
