BARGAIN HUNT

Having one of these men in your backline could solve your cashflow problems

When you play Dream Team, you need your defence to be rock solid, keeping clean sheets but also be able to weigh in with goals and assists too.

There are some talented defenders around and some of the Premier League’s best had great spells at World Cup 2018, but now they’re back and they mean business.

If you want to save some cash in your Dream Team, you might want to consider one of these men.

You don’t want too many expensive stars in your XI, though, so you might need to hunt for a bargain.

So, before you click confirm on your 11-man selection, as you attempt to win some of the £400,000 on offer in the free to play game, check out our tips below.

Sean Morrison (Cardiff City) – £1.5million

The Bluebirds star managed a brilliant seven goals last season, taking his tally to 20 across the last four campaigns – not bad for a centre-back. He’s almost a certain to start so well worth considering if you need the cash. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 2

Ryan Fredericks (West Ham) – £2million

The ex-Spurs right-back will be a threat down the flank for the Hammers and finally solve their issues in that position. Fredericks got seven assists for Fulham last-term and his electric pace will trouble plenty of defences. He will be hoping to shore things up at the back for Manuel Pellegrini too and if he does you’ll be in the points. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 1

Ricardo Pereira (Leicester City) – £2million

The Portugal star is a converted winger so he can definitely add to the Foxes going forward. In his last two campaigns he’s got eight assists and four goals, while playing for Nice and then Porto. If he can get close to his previous levels in the Premier League then he will be an excellent acquisition for both Leicester City and your Dream Team.

Ryan Bertrand (Southampton) – £2.5million

England international Bertrand looked improved in the late stages of last season as he was shifted to a wing-back. He didn’t make Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad and seems intent on proving just how good he is. We’ll bet good money he improves on last year’s score of 62. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 4

Patrick van Aanholt (Crystal Palace) – £2.5million

The Dutchman really hit his stride at the end of last season and if he can produce goals and assists all season long then he could rack up the points at a low cost. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 5

Jannik Vestergaard (Southampton) – £3million

The giant Dane, measuring in at 6ft5in, will be a real threat at set-pieces, which Mark Hughes will surely utilise well. Vestergaard is also a handy defender and will hopefully keep some clean sheets and be the replacement for Virgil van Dijk which was needed. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 6

Andy Robertson (Liverpool) – £3million

The flying Scotsman racked up five assists last term and will be eyeing up an improvement this year. The Reds are also likely to be more secure at the back so expect a few more clean sheets from the left-back, who should beat his 100-point score from 2017/18. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 7

Shkodran Mustafi (Arsenal) – £3million

There are questions about how good the German Gunner actually is a player rated well by WhoScored.com’s calculations leading to a lot of 7/10 match scores. Perfect for adding three points to your weekly score, plus he can get goals too. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 8

Dejan Lovren (Liverpool) – £3.5million

The Reds could be set for a brilliant season with their sensational summer signings. He now has extra protection ahead of him with Fabinho, while Alisson is set to keep more clean sheets than Loris Karius, so it could be a big campaign full of points which could see him improve on the 141 he earned last year. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 9

Antonio Rudiger (Chelsea) – £3.5million

Having scored 170 points last season it’s a surprise to see the German with only a £3.5m fee. He’s currently being paired with David Luiz as the Blues revert to a back-four under Maurizio Sarri, and he’s a real threat at set-pieces. 10 cheap defenders for your Dream Team XI DTD 10
