The Samsung Galaxy X foldable smartphone appears to have leaked to reveal how the folding display of the handset will work.
The Galaxy X should feature a single 7-inch OLED display which folds over lengthways to leave a small slither of screen on show.
This small section of screen could work like a notifications display, allow at-a-glance information without chewing battery or requiring the user to flip open the phone.
The phone could also be laid on a table half folded up to offer an angled display.
This information comes from sources inside the company and is backed up by patents that show exactly that layout.
Allegedly the phone will use a 6-axis accelerometer to detect if the phone is folded or open and will automatically adapt the display to suit.
When in folded mode the display on show is slightly lower than the top screen which could help to provide protection to that portion of the screen which is left exposed.
By carrying the phone in a folded position the Galaxy X should offer a screen that stays scratch and crack free more easily than current smartphones.
The patent describes the screen as working in both portrait and landscape modes, like current phones.
Crucially the Galaxy X could also offer a split screen mode that effectively turns the large display into two separate screens.
This could be very helpful for multi-tasking between apps without suffering from small screen space.
Samsung is reportedly aiming to release the Galaxy X early in 2019 in limited numbers as it does not expect lots of sales.
This is likely due to the price a cutting-edge phone like this will cost to manufacture.
Rumours have also suggested the Galaxy X will be aimed at gamers who, presumably, prefer a larger screen device.
If it proves popular Samsung will apparently push out the handset on a larger scale in the second half of 2019.
There is also a mention of the device working with a stylus.
Since the S Pen stylus is thought to be a major feature on the new Galaxy Note 9, due to launch on August 9, it may also appear here.
