The Brooklyn brawler has been vocal in his pursuit of a lucrative showdown against 28-year-old Joshua, signing with his promoter, Eddie Hearn’s Matchroom Boxing, while attempting to position himself in the rankings for a crack at the title.
Today, he came face-to-face with his rival at the launch of US sports streaming giant DAZN in his home town, New York City – and the pair did not hit it off.
In a testy exchange off-camera, Miller could be heard hectoring Joshua, insulting the former Olympic gold medallist until AJ finally snapped.
“Who you f****** talking to, shut the f*** up and get off the stage, you little b****,” Joshua shouted back.
“I’ll slap you. Have some respect.”
The pair continued to hurl insults at each other until Hearn was forced to step in and separate the pair, leading Joshua away to conduct his face-off against confirmed opponent Povetkin.
AJ will make his seventh world title defence when he takes on the Russian at Wembley Stadium on September 22 in front of a crowd expected to reach 90,000-strong.
Speaking at today’s launch, 38-year-old Povetkin promised fans an exciting match-up when the pair come to blows later this year.
“Joshua is a respected champion, and an Olympic champion,” he said.
“I want to make sure everybody knows this will be an interesting fight.”
Povektin knocked out Brit David Price last time out, fighting on Joshua’s undercard as he added Joseph Parker’s WBO title to his growing collection of jewellery.
Povetkin narrowly escaped a scare from the big Scouser as he was caught flush with a left hook, requiring a standing count from the referee before he blasted Price out in the very next round.
Joshua currently holds three of the four major world titles – the IBF, WBA and WBO – with just Deontay Wilder’s WBC strap standing between him and the mantle of becoming undisputed heavyweight champion.
