UPDATE – The Instagram outage appears to getting worse with thousands of reports of issues with the popular app,
ORIGINAL STORY – Instagram fans are in for a frustrating afternoon as it appears the hugely popular photo-sharing app is currently down and not working.
Down Detector, which monitors outages across the world, is showing a surge of reports with hundreds of users currently unable to access or use the app with the UK and America hardest hit.
Down Detector is an independent Website which tracks social mentions around certain topics to detect outages across the globe.
Users of the Facebook-owned social network have flocked to rival Twitter to report issues with Instagram.
One fan of the app tweeted: “Ugh Instagram is down and now I actually have to work.”
And another added: “How many times hasInstagram been down this year.”
It’s currently unclear what is causing the problems, or when Instagram will be back online.
This latest outage comes after fans of the app were hit by similar issues last week with the app out of action for hours.
Instagram released a short statement on what happened during the outage, confirming that there were widespread issues with core services.
“Yesterday, there was an issue causing the Instagram app to crash on Android devices. We’re sorry, and things are resolved,” the message explains.
“If you’re still experiencing problems, try reinstalling or updating your app.”

If you think you’ve found a technical problem on Instagram, you can report it from within the Instagram app.
This will mean following these steps:
• Go to your profile
• Tap (iPhone) or (Android) in the top right
• Scroll down and tap Report a Problem, then follow the on-screen instructions
• Make sure to include as much detail about the problem as possible in your report. Information like the kind of phone or tablet you were using and what you were doing when the problem occurred may help us to address the issue.
