The American, who shared the lead with Andrew Putnam going into the final round, holed out for eagle to cap a six-shot victory to finish on -19 in Memphis.
Leaving himself just on the fringe of the fairway, Johnson played an aggressive approach directly at the flag.
It paid off as the ball bounced a couple of times before landing in the hole.
Johnson beamed a big smile as he saluted the gallery after his wonder shot.
The 33-year-old’s win – his 18th on the PGA Tour – also sees him climb back above Justin Thomas as world No 1.
Discussing his spectacular hole out, Johnson said: “I’m glad it’s over.
“What a cool way to end the day to hole out at 18!
“A lot of good things happened this week.
“I knew coming in this week I was swinging really well and I had a lot of confidence in the game and I played really well.”
Johnson however admitted he didn’t feel entirely comfortable in the final round, adding: “I made nice putt for par at 12.
“That gave me a boost I needed.
“I was really kind of flat starting the day.
“It was nice to get the juices flying about and it was only six months, but it was a lot of fun today.”
