Noel Rasmussen, 19, is calling for the Markle family to call a truce and support Meghan, 36, ahead of her marriage to Prince Harry.
The anthropology student said she is “embarrassed” by the actions of her estranged mother – Meghan’s half-sister Samantha Grant.
Ms Grant recently accused the American bride-to-be of “inviting complete strangers” to the Royal Wedding over “her own family”.
But Ms Rasmussen said: “It’s in Meghan’s nature to be a good person and she won’t want any bad feelings. I think she is doing the best she can in the public eye.
“I’ve always really looked up to her, like a big sister I never had. She took me shopping for kids books and clothes.
“She taught me how important it was to read books. She’s kind, genuine, very thoughtful and warm.”
Ms Grant, who shares a father with Meghan, said members of the Markle family should have been invited “out of respect”.
She tweeted: “At issue is not a matter of closeness as more than 1,000 complete strangers are invited.
Mr Markle, a retired US diplomat, said: “It’s uncalled for. I helped her out and I didn’t ask for anything in return.
“But if they don’t want me there, then I don’t want to go.”
“This whole invitation thing has not been played out very well.
