The No Cold Calling Zone (NCCZ) will mean residents can collectively prevent traders and salespersons from calling at their homes without a prior appointment.

Residents of Great Back Lane in Debenham have become the latest in Suffolk to ban cold callers from their road.

At the launch of the new No Cold Calling Zone (NCCZ) on Thursday, the group were supported by Matthew Hicks, Suffolk County Councillor for the Thredling Division, Suffolk Trading Standards and local police.

Matthew Hicks tweeted: “Great to help launch a No Cold Calling Zone today in Great Back Lane, @DebenhamVillage. Thank you James & Amy @SuffolkTS @suffolkcc and @SuffolkPolice for your support.”

Halesworth Police called the move “a positive step by residents of Debenham to protect all members of the community”.

Suffolk County Council advise that the main reason for setting up an NCCZ must be crime prevention or reduction, or reducing the fear of crime – and there must be a likely chance that a NCCZ will assist in achieving this purpose.

Residents must also be able to identify a problem already evident in the area, or provide specific intelligence of high levels of doorstep crime.

To find out how to nominate your road, go to www.suffolk.gov.uk and search for “no cold calling zones”.
