A.S Roma want to sign Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City, and have made made contact with the player through his agent, according to Sky Sports in Italy.
After arriving from Ligue 2 side Le Havre in January 2014, the Algerian has mesmerised the Premier League with his skillful displays, culminating in him winning the Player of the Season award when the Foxes miraculously lifted the League in the summer of 2016.
The 26-year-old netted 17 times during the title-winning season, but along with his team, has struggled to replicate the same dazzling form seen during the 2015/16 campaign. He handed in a transfer request at the end of last term to new manager Craig Shakespeare.
Shakespeare addressed this situation directly last week when speaking to Sky Sports News, by saying the club had not received any offers for the player as of yet, but would consider them should the situation change.
“We’d have to consider it,” he said. “But we don’t know the value and we don’t know the bid so until a bid comes in again it’s not worth thinking about.
“I think we have to look what is behind that as well, in terms of advice.
“We have to understand Riyad’s concerns but while he is contracted to the football club, and while we’ve had no bids for him, which we haven’t, he has to be professional and we have to be professional.
“He has to be fully committed here and I expect him to do that.”
Whether Roma will be the club who eventually make an offer for Mahrez remains to be seen, but it seems unlikely that he will be a Leicester player at the start of next season.
