Liverpudlians Anthony Fowler and Natasha Jonas are both looking forward to boxing in front of a North East crowd in Walker tonight.
The Matchroom pair are both part of the stacked JDNXTGen card laid on by Eddie Hearn at the Walker Dome tonight, topped by an all-North East battle between Josh Kelly and Tom Whitfield.
The Scouse pair were both Team GB amateur team-mates of Kelly’s and are both looking forward to putting on a show for the Geordies.
Rio 2016 Olympian Fowler has his second professional contest at the Walker Dome after an impressive debut at Bramall Lane last month.
And he declared his love for the Geordies, saying they have ‘similar craic’ to Scousers.
Meanwhile, 2012 Olympian Jonas made history by becoming the first ever female to box for Team GB at an Olympic Games when she was part of the boxing squad in London.
After briefly retiring from the sport in 2015 she’s now back and has signed as a professional, making her debut in Newcastle this evening.
She too is hopeful the North East crowd get behind her, saying that Geordies and Scousers always get on. She hopes fans are as lively tonight as they are at football matches.
The pair both spoke at the JD Sports store in Newcastle where the weigh-ins took place ahead of the show.
See both Fowler and Jonas discuss their fights, which will be live on Sky Sports 2 from 9pm, in the video above.
