Jose Mourinho Passes the Buck to Ed Woodward as Atletico President Rules Out Griezmann Move

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has claimed that the signing of Antoine Griezmann is in the hands of executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward.

Atletico president Enrique Cerezo, meanwhile, has insisted that the in-demand Frenchman will still be at the club next season.

Mourinho, who spent the weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, has admitted that he is allowing Woodward to deal with transfer negotiations over the summer.

“I have no idea if Antoine Griezmann will come to United,” Mourinho told Sky Sports F1. “Ask Ed Woodward. He knows since March who I want, what I want and how much I want.

“Now is time for him to work. It’s for him to work because he has holidays in August and in August I’m working.

“I don’t care about football for a month. I’m really happy with our season, the [EFL Cup and Europa League] trophies, to be back in Champions League but now I have a rest, to disconnect completely and enjoy my family and friends and other sports I like.”

Cerezo was more assertive when asked the same question, suggesting that Atletico are unlikely to let their star striker leave without a fight.

“Will Griezmann be here? Well, no, he will be in the Wanda Metropolitano,” Cerezo said – via Goal. “He is going to be in the Wanda Metropolitano.”

Griezmann has scored 26 goals in all competitions for Atletico this season, and recently claimed that there was a “60 per cent chance” of a summer move to Old Trafford.

Which of these relegated sides will be the first to seal promotion back to the EPL?
