Pundit Don Goodman lauded ‘resilient’ Birmingham City for grinding out a deserved point at home to Newcastle on Saturday.
The former Wolves striker also singled out Tomasz Kuszczak for praise after the experienced goalkeeper put in a superb display to keep a clean sheet in a 0-0 draw.
Goodman told Sky Sports News that the result was a big shock with most people expecting the Toon to ‘steamroller’ Blues.
“The Championship throws up massive surprises on a regular basis,” Goodman said.
“I think everybody probably expected Newcastle to go and steamroller Birmingham – they are the best away team in the division.
“But Birmingham put up a fight, were resilient and had a goalkeeper in outstanding form.”
However, he doesn’t view the result as a set-back for Rafael Benitez’s men.
“I think given the other results elsewhere they have actually made progress this weekend – and you can never sniff at that can you?
“What with Brighton losing and Huddersfield losing surprisingly, it’s a point gained.”
