The plan to save Obamacare is part of strategy to blame Donald Trump for 'betraying his own voters'

The campaign manager for the coalition is Leslie Dach, a former top lobbyist for Wal-Mart who also worked in the administration of President Barack Obama to promote the ACA. Coaliton members include the leading Obamacare advocacy group Families USA, the large Service Employees International Union, the NAACP, the National Urban League and the National Council of La Raza.

The coalition’s creation comes as a number of health-care experts have raised warnings that repealing Obamacare, as both Trump and Republican congressional leaders intend to do, without having a plan in hand to immediately replace the health-care law could lead to sharp increases in the numbers of Americans without health insurance.

Some Republicans have called for delaying the effects of a repeal for up to three years until a replacement plan can be crafted and agreed upon.

But the American Academy of Actuaries, in a letter to House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., this week, said delaying a replacement plan while at the same time repealing Obamacare could wreak havoc in the nation’s individual insurance plan market.

Earlier this week, the Urban Institute, in a new study, said that repealing the ACA without any replacement plan could double the uninsured rate by 2019, leading to a higher rate of uninsurance than was seen before passage of Obamacare into law.

“‘Repeal and delay’ is not better than repeal,” The Protect Our Care Coalition said. “American families deserve to know what will happen to them before Congress acts.”

“In these uncertain times, working people in America value the safety and security of health coverage more than ever,” the coalition said.

“Before any repeal vote, they deserve to know what is in a replacement plan and see proof that it will provide better, more affordable care, coverage and consumer protections than the ACA.”
