Real Madrid do not need to buy Harry Kane because they already have Karim Benzema.
That’s according to former Madridista Fernando Morientes, who wants the club to find a more direct replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.
With Real allowing the Portuguese susperstar to join Juventus, there is a spot on the left-hand side of attack for a clinical and sklilful forward.
However, according to Morientes, Tottenham Hotspur striker Kane does not fit that mould.
“Normally, in Real Madrid, all the Galacticos can arrive to the Bernabeu,” he told talkSPORT’s Ian Abrahams.
“But now it’s very difficult because Cristiano Ronaldo go out [Karim] Benzema stays up front as a number nine.
“And if Harry Kane comes to Madrid, maybe he’s not the same as Cristiano Ronaldo – we need something special.”
Kane, who is still leading the race for the World Cup Golden Boot, has transformed himself from Millwall loanee to England captain in the space of six years.
However, while former Real striker Morientes admitted the 25-year-old was a prodigious talent, he stressed the importance of adding balance to their side.
“All the people say that the more important player now for Real Madrid is maybe Neymar, [Kylian] Mbappe if Benzema does what people thinks and stay for one more year.
“We need another type of player, not a striker, because we have Benzema.
“And if Harry Kane came, two number nines in one big team is very difficult.”
In recent years, Real have tended to opt for glamour signings instead of for the benefit of the squad.
In 2003, Zinedine Zidane famously protested against the deal which saw Claude Makelele depart the club and David Beckham arrive in Madrid.
He said: “Why put another layer of gold paint on the Bentley when you are losing the entire engine?”
