TWO Hampshire restaurants have been named among the top ten nationally, according to a leading bookings Website.
The Black Rat and The Chesil Rectory, both in Chesil Street, Winchester, featured in the annual list compiled by OpenTable after more than 730,000 reviews.
The annual ‘Top 50 Fit for Foodies’ list highlights the top venues around the county from over 7,200 restaurants.
Coming in second, The Black Rat has has been described as “a relaxed venue where you can get a good meal” and is one of the only Hampshire eateries to be awarded a Michelin Star.
Landlord David Nicholson said: “I think it’s absolutely fantastic. It’s done by the customers and they have got to be the most important judges. If the people like it, we must be doing something right.”
Meanwhile, The Chesil Rectory featured tenth on the list. Based in the the medieval Chesil Rectory building – the oldest commercial property in Winchester – it has been a restaurant for the last 75 years, although it was taken over by the current team in 2008.
Owner Mark Dodd said: “I am delighted for all the team at The Chesil Rectory, many who have worked with us throughout our journey.
“To feature in the top ten is a testament to everyone’s hard work, especially as the award comes directly from customer feedback
