A moving company will actually will pack your household goods for you then they load the moving van with your household goods and then deliver them and unload them at your new location. And hopefully they can park as close as they can get to your new location and safely unload your goods with a minimum of steps into your new home.
But they also do other things for you such as using protective coverings like padded movers blankets to protect your home and your items. They may also use stretch wrap around some items to protect them or hold them closed. This way you don’t have to pack up all of the drawers in a chest of drawers that is being moved. They will wrap furniture then tape the blanket around the furniture like an armoire or chest of drawers.
Of course they will inventory your items. They also put coded stickers on each box and item so they can account for each item they moved. Do remember that these small stickers may fall off so some items may not have them on them when they arrive.
A moving company is a service company that is in Business because you and other potential customers want to use them to move house. A moving company may also have some ancillary Business that are related to its main Business purpose like self storage or even long term storage facilities. It may be attached to a freight forwarder Business. But generally a removals company will stick to the area of removals be it houses, apartments, condos or offices.
If you cannot move into your new location right away the movers may be able to store your goods for you for a short term if they have their own location or access to a storage facility. Moves don’t always go perfectly smooth so sometimes you have to accept that things happen so if your new place is not quite ready the movers may be able to make this part of the move easier for you by handling the short term storage.
When the movers arrive at your door on moving day they will normally lay floor runners over the carpets and flooring and may place padding around any stair railings or doorways if feasible to protect your home. They will do the same at your new location.
If you have packed your own items, they will look at your boxes and if they look problematic they may have to repack them before they will load them into the van. This is for your own safety because if a carton looks like it might collapse it cannot be safely moved to your new location, especially if other boxes are stacked on top of it in the moving van.
Most larger moving companies use a satellite system to track their moving vans and your possessions much like a GPS does. This is a way to insure your household goods get to the correct destination in a timely manner.
