Romelu Lukaku is confident of returning for Manchester United sooner than expected.
The Belgium international has given fans an upbeat update on his ankle injury as he continues his recovery.
The 24-year-old was forced off in the 50th minute of United’s Premier League win over Arsenal on April 29 and missed the Friday night defeat at Brighton.
Lukaku flew to Antwerp last week to rehabilitate at the Move to Cure centre under the treatment of Belgian physiotherapist Lieven Maesschalck and briefly spoke to reporters in Belgium when he was asked about his recovery.
“My recovery is going faster than expected, as always,” he told HLN.
Lukaku has only missed two United matches through injury all season and manager Jose Mourinho said on Thursday he expected him to be fit for the FA Cup final.
“I just know that of course not (playing) tomorrow,” Mourinho said ahead of the Brighton match. “Apart from that we need to wait for more scans, more time. FA Cup final? I hope so. Looks positive.”
United face Chelsea at Wembley on May 19 but have two more league fixtures to fulfil this week. United Travel to West Ham on Thursday and host Watford in their final game of the campaign on Sunday.
Mourinho seemed to all but confirm Lukaku would start the FA Cup final after Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford performed poorly in the loss at Brighton.
“I think you should be disappointed,” Mourinho said. “And when I say you I say media in a general way, because for many months you are always asking me why this player doesn’t play, why that player doesn’t play, why this player is on the bench, why always Lukaku, why always this guy?
“So I think you should be disappointed more than me because probably I know my players better than you and probably you don’t know them so well to be always with these questions.”
Lukaku has scored 27 goals from his 50 United appearances, writes the MEN.
