The moment a family was rescued by the coastguard “with seconds to spare” has been captured in a series of dramatic images.
A group of five got into trouble on the beach at West Shore, Llandudno , when they became trapped on sandbanks by the incoming tide.
The coastguard was first at the scene after receiving a page at 12.19pm to reports of people cut off by the tide.
After assessing the situation, both the Llandudno Lifeboat RNLI and Conwy Lifeboat were launched.
Local mum Sam Owen, 38, was on the beach with her children and witnessed the dramatic incident as it unfolded: “It was my daughter Chloe that first noticed them. The tide was way out when we arrived but started coming in fast.
“I kept checking to see where the people were and although they were walking, the sea was all around them.
“I was about to ring the coastguard when they arrived on the beach and took them to safety.
“I come to west shore every year with my children and they are aware that they aren’t to go where you can get cut off.
“I am not aware of any signs that warn you although I have been told that there are some.
“Holidaymakers don’t stand a chance of knowing if they aren’t familiar with the area.”
The group was successfully escorted back to safety.
A spokesman for the Llandundo Coastguard said: “Arriving at scene we could see the persons in danger of being cut off. We immediately asked for Lifeboat support so Llandudno Lifeboat RNLI and Conwy Lifeboat were launched.
“We also deployed two team members in water rescue kit onto the sandbanks to bring the people back to shore.
“We were able to bring the casualties back to shore with seconds to spare as the tide cut the sandbanks off completely as soon as we were back on shore.
“Safety advice was given once we were happy no other people were in danger.”
It is understood a child was among the people rescued.
The lifeboats stood by until it was clear the group had reached the beach without mishap and the crews were stood down by Holyhead Coastguard shortly afterwards.
