CELTIC lost two of their most creative players to injury as the tough start to the season took it toll on Brendan Rodgers’ squad.
Paddy Roberts, just back from injury suffered a re-occurence of his hamstring pull in the match at Fir Park and Scottish Cup Final hero Tom Rogic hurt his knee after coming on to attempt to turn the tide in the 1-0 home defeat in the Champions League to Anderlecht.
These players, both so influential in Rodgers’ time as manager, have been badly missed. Yesterday the gaffer gave us a progress report on both.
“Pat’s timeline was the end of February. We were told three months. He’s here and doing straight line running and February remains the aim. If it’s earlier than that then great.
“We’re waiting to see what’s Tom’s reaction is and we’ll see where he’s at by the end of January.
“Tom’s a good creative player. We don’t cry about that or go on about it, but the players we’ve had out, the likes of Pat and Tom are misses.
“We hope we can get them back soon.”
The sooner the better!
The CQN Podcast: A Celtic State of Mind (EP28) with former Celtic director Tom Grant
Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham are joined by Celtic’s ex-director, Tom Grant, who offers a fascinating insight into the running of the club in the 1980s and 1990s.
Tom Grant explains exactly why Celtic refused to complete the Mo Johnston transfer in 1989, and lifts the lid on audacious efforts by Billy McNeill to recruit Peter Beardsley and Steve Bruce.
Tom Grant also dissects his relationship with Fergus McCann, and the impact of the ‘Celts For Change’ movement in overturning the ‘family dynasty’ board in 1994.
Jim Craig made two of the three goals in the 1967 European Cup Final.
