Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra may have a new role to look forward to next year, as Meghan Markle’s bridesmaid.
The Quantico star is widely rumoured to be asked to be part of Markle’s bridal party when she marries Prince Harry in Windsor on 19 May.
The former Miss World has been friends with the Suits star since they first met at a party in Toronto, where they were both filming.
Both UN ambassadors, Meghan and Priyanka apparently bonded over their humanitarian work and were frequently seen socialising together.
Their respective Instagram accounts are littered with photos of the pair enjoying some down time together, sipping cocktails by the pool and indulging in some “girl talk.”
Chopra, who is a leading star of Indian cinema, has forged a career in music releasing tracks with Pitbull and the The Chainsmokers. After starring in ABC’s Quantico, she recently made her mark on Hollywood in Baywatch, where she played Victoria Leeds alongside Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron.
When Meghan’s engagement to Prince Harry was announced, Chopra congratulated her friend on Instagram posting a picture of the happy couple with the message: “Congratulations to my girl @meghanmarkle and Prince Harry!! I’m so happy for you Meg! You deserve the best always..keep smiling that infectious smile. Xoxo”
The Indian star was also quick to defend Meghan when it was suggested that, despite her own accomplishments she might become better known as Harry’s girlfriend.
She told People: “Sometimes women become plus-ones and guys become plus-ones. It’s who is on the radar more.
“I think in an overall scheme of things, it’s harder for girls to be able to make their own and stand for what they are, and I’m a girl love kind of girl.”
Other celebrity friends of the bride-to-be who are expected to attend the royal wedding include Jessica Mulroney who met Prince Harry soon after they made their first official public a
ppearance and also accompanied Meghan to the Invictus Games.
Tennis champion Serena Williams who has been friends with Meghan since 2014, might also play a prominent role in the wedding.
Earlier today (15 December) Kensington Palace confirmed that a date had been set for the wedding with Ms Markle and Prince Harry tying the knot on 19 May, 2018, at St George’s Chapel in Windsor.
The couple has said they want to be able to involve the public in their big day, but further details have not yet been confirmed.
