The famous old rivals were pairing up with one another for Team Europe in the doubles this evening against the Rest of the World.
Federer was serving and he fired a rocket down the tee which had opponent Sam Querrey, who was playing with Jack Sock, scrambling.
American Querrey, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon this year, managed to get a racket on it but he could only lob the return high into mid court.
It was an easy putaway for either Nadal or Federer except there was just one problem – they couldn’t decide who was having it.
Federer called early but Nadal seemingly ignored the man he’s met 37 times in some of the best games in tennis history.
As Federer advanced towards the net, Nadal refused to budge and he wound up for an overhead smash.
Fortunately, at the last minute Federer pulled out and ducked for cover as the Spaniard put away the point.
The pair had earlier joked about ensuring they picked up “no injuries” in a tactical chat ahead of the match.
The Nadal and Federer rivalry is considered the biggest in tennis history and this is the first time they’ve partnered one another in doubles.
In singles they have played one another 37 times, most recently in Miami. Nadal leads their thirteen-year-old rivalry with an overall record of 23–14.
