LBC host Maajid Nawaz offered his critical perspective on the UK Government management of the Brexit negotiations.
The presenter said: “When fudge after fudge is being revealed as the kind of substance of the negotiations Theresa May is involved in, I suspect that the deal is gonna be the deal that nobody is happy with.
“Brexiteers nor Remainers, we just end up in a default position where we just don’t leave.
Nawaz was reacting to the Government blueprint on the future legal relationship the UK will divorce from Brussels.
Prime Minister Theresa May pledged Brexit would put an end to European Court of Justice (ECJ) influence on British courts.
Recently released position paper revealed that only the court’s “direct jurisdiction” will cease to affect UK law.
Nawaz said the apparent compromise was just the latest in a series of political climbdowns from Ms May
He commented: “Compromise after compromise seems to be kicking in.
“First we heard there won’t be a hard border between Northern Ireland and the Republic. Then we heard we want to stay in the single market.
“Now we are hearing this. That the ECJ will continue to have ‘indirect jurisdiction’ over the United Kingdom.”
The Prime Minister quickly addressed the accusation of a u-turn, saying: “What is absolutely clear, as I made clear in that speech I’ve made when we leave the European Union, we will leave the jurisdiction of the European Court of Justice.
“We will take back control of our laws.”
