Claire Richards, 39, was the bubbly front-woman of pop band Steps with their catchy tunes and infectious dance moves hitting the charts in 1997.
Cropped tops and chokers were a staple part of fashion back in the 1990s, and Claire rocked the outfits with confidence.
But fast forward ten years to the mid-naughties and the singer had piled on the pounds.
Opening up in her tell-all-book ‘All of Me: My Story’, Claire said: “I have an emotional connection to food.
“Food for me is almost like a drug – I get an instant gratification from it, but it doesn’t last very long. So then I have to find the next thing to eat to satisfy my craving.”
Claire appeared on the 11th series of Celebrity Big Brother alongside Rylan Clark in 2013 sporting a fuller figure.
The star looked fabulous and oozed the confidence she had in the mid-90s but it was clear she’d gained weight during her time out of the limelight.
The singer has fluctuated between a size 20 and a size eight over the years and now sports a healthy size 10 figure.
The star told Reveal magazine: “There is always a possibility that I could be a size 16 again in a year’s time. I’m just taking each day as it comes.
“Starting a diet is always the hardest bit, but it’s never easy. It’s a challenge and a battle every single day.”
She has now lost six stone and revealed that portion sizes were her downfall when it came to keeping the pounds off.
Opening up to Bella magazine she said: “I hope I’ve broken the cycle but I think I’ve learned my lesson by saying: ‘This time it’s for good’.
“Portion sizes have always been my downfall. I never needed to eat the amount of food I did – I eat a fraction of what I used to now.”
Claire is a proud mum of two children, Daisy, six, and Charlie, nine, with husband Reece Hill.
And she’ll have no time for pondering about her weight loss this summer as Steps officially announced their comeback in March.
The Deeper Shade of Blue group has enlisted the help of Abba’s Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus for their latest album.
Claire, alongside Lee Hatchford-Evans, Lisa Scott-Lee, Ian Watkins and Faye Tozer will be appearing on This Morning to talk to Eamonn Homes and Ruth Langsford about the come-back today.
