While Aston Villa’s players arrived at Shrewsbury Town via coach yesterday, two claret and blue fanatics arrived in style.
Villa Park season ticket holders Mark Cartwright and son Sam made the short trip from their Shrewsbury home to New Meadow to watch their beloved Villa.
While the football wasn’t up to scratch as Villa were beaten 2-1 courtesy of goals from Salop pair Zak Jules and Arthur Gnahoua before Henri Lansbury grabbed a stoppage time consolation from the penalty spot, Mark and Sam were able to show off their custom scooter to a few of their heroes at full time.
Sam Johnstone, James Chester, Jordan Amavi and Alan Hutton all stopped and posed for pictures with the claret and blue lambretta. Mark joked: “Some loved it but others just gave me strange looks!”
Mark bought the scooter for Sam’s 18th birthday present before having his friend customise it to make his son’s allegiances clear as he scoots around Shropshire.
While Johnstone, Chester, Amavi and Hutton all loved the unique automobile, plans to invest in 20-odd scooters for Villa to travel to away games are yet to be given the green light.
