Peta Hiku has joined Warrington
Warrington have announced the signing of New Zealand international Peta Hiku from Australian side Penrith Panthers.
The versatile 24-year-old back has agreed a deal until the end of the 2019 season and will join the club with immediate effect, subject to receiving a visa.
Hiku’s arrival will give the Wolves a lift for the remainder of what has been a difficult season.
Widely regarded title favourites before the season began, the Wolves are currently languishing in 10th place in the Betfred Super League.
Wolves coach Tony Smith said: “Having spoken to Peta he’s excited about coming over and continuing his successful career here in Super League, giving us the boost in the positions we need.
“He’s a high-quality player with plenty of experience, having represented his country, so to come up with a quality signing like Peta is very exciting.
“He will add a lot to the group. I’m really looking forward to working with him.”
Hiku, who has nine New Zealand caps, has played in a variety of positions in the back division since beginning his career with Manly Sea Eagles in 2013.
His signing follows that of Ben Pomeroy, who joined the club from French side Lezignan last week.
Hiku said: “I’m very grateful for this opportunity and excited to come and join a great club.
“Everyone has been very welcoming. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the club and the team. I just can’t wait to get over there and play some footy.”
Meanwhile, it is understood centre Matty Blythe is likely to miss the remainder of the season after suffering a fracture of the leg against Huddersfield earlier this month,
