Birmingham Mail readers have had their say on which of the city’s clubs should be John Terry’s new home – and, unsurprisingly, the result is split.
Aston Villa and Birmingham City are both interested in the former Chelsea and England captain and are thought to have tabled competitive offers.
Both Villa boss Steve Bruce and Blues chief Harry Redknapp have had opportunities to have a few words in the ear of the in-demand 36-year-old this summer. Bruce has been holidaying in Portugal and has enjoyed a few rounds of golf with Terry, while Redknapp managed an All Stars XI at Michael Carrick’s testimonial captained by Terry last month.
Terry is reportedly seeking wages of around £100,000 per week which would see him become both Villa and Blues’ highest ever earner.
And it’s Blues who the majority of our readers think would be a better fit for Terry.
Over 10,000 people voted in a poll on our website and the results showed a 54-46% split in Blues’ favour.
Whether Terry feels that Blues is a better fit remains to be seen. Both Second City clubs are hopeful of receiving an answer from Terry later this week.
Steven Barrett: “John Terry will do what is best for John Terry. I suspect he will have one eye on coaching now.”
Darren Fox: “At 100k a week I wouldn’t touch him..but on other hand [he’s a] great defender.”
Paul Magee: “Think of the other qualities he brings before writing him off. If he signs for a year he costs us £5m.”
Russell Cook: “Think he will choose Villa, they will offer more in wages. Be a big pay day for him. I’d love to see him down here but don’t think it will happen.”
Scott Cherry: “Come on JT, you know it makes sense.”
Martin Callus: “We’ll all hear in due course….not fussed if he doesn’t…. but will be loving it if he does!”
