The top 10 long-haul and short-haul destinations for British holidaymakers this summer have been revealed.
TripAdvisor’s Summer Holiday Value Report contains some surprising candidates when it comes to best value breaks.
Research has also revealed the cheapest week to travel to the most sought after destinations.
According to the travel booking site, Ibiza is proving the most popular short-haul destination for Brits heading abroad in peak season 2017.
Spain fared extremely well in the top 10 lineup, with four other destinations featured in the list, including Majorca, Barcelona, Benidorm and Gran Canaria.
Though Ibiza was ranked number one, another Spanish destination offers the best bargain.
Gran Canaria offers the cheapest week available this summer and the most savings along the way.
If you jet off to the Spanish island on June 19 from the UK, you could save 194 per cent on your hotel and flights compared to the peak travel period.
Gran Canaria is in popular demand with other travel sites too – Airbnb just ranked Tenerife as the second top trending destination for British holidaymakers.
Benidorm – which ranked eighth most popular in TripAdvisor’s short-haul category – offered the best value across the whole summer season with an average holiday cost of £1,190.
Other short-haul destinations to feature in the top 10 most popular were Crete (second), Santorini (fourth), Cyprus (fifth), Malta (sixth), Barcelona (seventh) and Madeira (ninth).
When it comes to long-haul, Bali has taken out first prize in the popularity stakes.
But it was Dubai in seventh place that offered the best bargain.
Travel to the United Arab Emirate on its cheapest week of summer from June 12 and you could save up to 177 per cent.
Bangkok – sixth most popular – offered the best value break with an average cost of £1,114.
Other popular long-haul destinations included Orlando (second), Las Vegas (third), Maldives (fourth) and New York (fifth).
Rounding out the top 10 was Marrakech, Phuket and Barbados.
Hayley Coleman from TripAdvisor said: “This report demonstrates that travellers who choose their travel dates carefully when planning a trip abroad this summer stand a chance of picking up some major savings when they are ready to book the right hotel for their travel needs.
“If you are considering a holiday in Gran Canaria during the week of 19th June for example, you can book it on TripAdvisor for a whopping £375 less than the average week’s cost over the rest of the summer – that’s more than the cost of a flight to Malta.”
The report was based on the biggest increase in seasonal hotel booking interest as well as average one-week holiday costs for hotels and airfares.
