Amazon’s Echo speaker is already packed with useful features including news updates, weather reports and even the ability to tell you a joke.
However, this voice controlled, internet connected, speaker has just received a fresh new update which brings another tasty bonus to owners.
Just in time for National Tea Day, the Echo and Echo dot now includes a Tea Rota.
The feature works by adding a list of everyone’s name in your home or office to the Alexa app – you can do this by simply saying “Alexa, Ask Tea Rota to add David to the list of tea makers.”
When it’s time for a brew users simply ask “Alexa, Ask Tea Rota whose turn is it to make tea’ and Alexa will randomly select the next person to get the tea.
This latest update comes as Amazon recently announced a free software update that will bring its Alexa smart assistant to all Fire TV devices in the UK, including first generation Fire TV and Fire TV Stick.
The software update will make Alexa available to millions of customers with Fire TV devices already set-up in their home – without the need for any additional hardware.
The update should be a great way for consumers to experience the cloud-based assistant that powers the best-selling Amazon Echo, which Express.co.uk praised in our review.
Unfortunately, instead of simply being able to use the wake word “Alexa” before launching into a query, like the Amazon Echo, Fire TV owners are required to press the microphone button on the remote, or within the companion app on iOS and Android.
However Fire TV Stick and Fire TV customers will still be able to take advantage of a number of Alexa’s capabilities.
Amazon will need to keep these updates coming as it’s just got some serious competition from Google.
Google Home has just launched in the UK and offers similar features to Amazon’s award-winning speaker.
However, it does arrive in your living room at a much cheaper price than the Echo and, with Google’s huge breadth of knowlege, offers much-improved web searches.
