“We’ve got confidence,” Peralta said. “We know what we can do. Like I said at the beginning of Spring Training, we’re going to surprise a lot this year because we’ve been working together, we’ve been working as a team. So, it doesn’t matter if we fall behind, we just grind every at-bat, inning by inning. The pitchers are going to do their thing and we tell them, don’t worry we’ve got your back. We’re working as a team. We just play the game and every time we go out there we’re just going to have fun.”
Peralta and A.J. Pollock showed some resiliency themselves Monday.
The pair entered the game both under the .200 mark and combined for eight hits with three RBIs.
“We both needed that,” Peralta said. “We’ve been kind of quiet. This kind of stuff happens. We just came in today, worked on our adjustments and today everything started to go the way we wanted and we helped the team. That’s what we’re always trying to do — looking for a way to help our team get some wins and today was our day, so it feels good.”
Pollock said his slow start to the season was frustrating, but the fact that the D-backs have been winning games has made it easier.
And the reason they’ve been winning those games is because it’s been a team effort.
“Every at-bat, every play, we’re never quitting,” said third baseman Jake Lamb, who hit the go-ahead homer in the eighth inning Monday. “We remain pretty close in games, one run, two runs. I hit that home run but that triple by [Peralta] was huge to get that insurance run.”
The D-backs now head to San Diego, where they’ll close out this 10-game road trip with a three-game series with the Padres.
“I think these guys believe in themselves, they believe in one another and they’re never out of any game,” D-backs manager Torey Lovullo said. “This lineup is very potent. They can score runs in bunches. They realize that.”
