A PRESTIGIOUS golf club has objected to a plan to build more than 500 homes on the current site of the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre due to concerns over parking for major events.

Royal Aberdeen Golf Club has objected to aspects of plans to create 518 homes on the basis that much of the current car park at the AECC wouldn’t be able to be used for major golf events due to housing being built on it.

Royal Aberdeen hosted the Scottish Open in 2014.

It comes after the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, which Royal Aberdeen hosted last year, generated an estimated £6 million for the wider economy in 2014.

A total of seven representations were made during the consultation period relating to proposals to develop the homes, with the first expected to be occupied post 2019

The public consultation ran for six weeks from Monday, May 25, until Monday, July 6.

And councillors will hear the objections next week, which include those from Royal Aberdeen Golf Club.
